Starting a business from home has never been easier! But there are so many business modules, so which one should you even pick? To find out which business module that fit you, here are some small business ideas you can start from home!
We have a list of 9 small business ideas in total, every one of them has the potential of you making profits. And each one of them you can do from home, and online. Some of the small business ideas you can start from home as total a beginner!
So you can sit in your couch and work in peace once you have chosen your business module. And as a little bonus, I will give you a few steps for each business idea to get you started!
1. E-Commerce
Let’s start this list of businesses you can start from home with e-commerce, I have to say, is a very popular choice. And the reason is that it works very well. And it’s actually really cheap to start with, in my opinion. We have Shopify that allows you to run an e-commerce store for $1/month. And that is cheap I have to tell you that, a good price for a domain name is like $15 a year, but you can get a whole e-commerce store for $12 a year on Shopify.
So I recommend you using Shopify for e-commerce. Now, I don’t want you to leave empty-handed, so here is a simple but effective way you can get your e-commerce business up and running from your home.
How To get your e-commerce business up and running from your home
As I promised, here is a step-by-step guide on how you can get up and running and earn potential profits:
1. Market Research:
Understand your target market and competition. How do you find this market and competition? Do research, if not you will end up doing a bad move eventually. And you might provide products that nobody wants, and you won’t earn anything.
2. Business Plan:
Develop a plan outlining your business model, products, marketing strategy, and financial projections. If you don’t have a plan, how are you going to earn? You need to know what you are going to do and how to succeed, and with help of the research you did, you know what type of strategies you should be doing.
3. Choosing Products:
Decide what products to sell. This could be something you create, drop-ship, or source from wholesalers. The research you have done can help you with which product that are good for your audience and which ones that will make you just lose money.
4. Setting Up an Online Store:
I already mentioned this, but you can use platforms like Shopify, WooCommerce, or Magento to build your store. But I pointed to Shopify specifically, but I think you get what I mean. I do recommend Shopify because it’s really cheap, in my opinion at least.
5. Payment Processing:
Set up payment gateways like PayPal, Stripe, or traditional credit card processing. I don’t think I have to tell you why you should do this, but if you don’t know why, this is how you will get paid.
6. Shipping and Fulfillment:
Plan how you will handle shipping – personally, through a fulfillment center, or dropshipping. And I have to be honest with you and tell you that I don’t exactly know how I can explain how you can do this. But I found this video that could help you a lot with fulfill orders/ship products on Shopify at least:
7. Digital Marketing:
How are you going to get people to your store and buy your products? You can use SEO, social media marketing, email marketing, and possibly paid advertising to attract customers.
How can you do this, for the SEO part you need to rank under search engines, social media you just need to publish content and make it engaging so that people want to buy. Email marketing is a bit harder to do, and it works best with websites, and lastly the paid advertisement, you can buy ads on Facebook, or any social media platform and that can attract a lot of potential costumers.
So that was it for the Ecommerce hope that you now can get your business starting right ahead, and if you want you can ask some questions in the comments area or contact us, and we can help you! Remember that the key is to try to learn as much as you can and then implement it.
2. Dropshipping
Did you think that dropshipping and e-commerce were basically the same? Well it’s not and I got a little bit shocked when I learned that. The main thing with dropshipping is that you don’t have any products in store. What you do is that when somebody orders from your site/store, you will take that money and buy the product they want for a cheaper price. And then you take the profits for yourself.
And e-commerce you don’t do that, you have products in an inventory. So it’s actually not the same as drop-shipping. Ok now just as before like we did at the e-commerce part, I have a guide for you that can really help you get started, and still it is important to continually learn.
Step-by-step guide on how you can get started
I do think that dropshipping is a bit easier to start with, and not as complicated as e-commerce with the storage managing, but here is my simple guide to get you of the ground:
1. Choosing the Right Niche:
Select products that are “relevant” today. I mean, there are things that will pretty much be relevant always like cloths or shoes and that type of stuff. But you can choose something relevant, like for some time ago there was this water gun that was really popular. And not going to lie, I wanted one so bad! But I didn’t buy it, sadly.
But you can see that if you pick something that is relevant for the time being, you can really start EARNING! We are not talking $100, we are talking thousands of dollars! So take the time and research what is relevant.
2. Finding Reliable Suppliers:
Partner with dependable suppliers who can provide quality products and reliable shipping. I mean, who wants to partner with a supplier who gives you low quality things, so here is a video that can help you find a good supplier:
3. Creating an Effective Online Store:
Yet again, you will want to use platforms like Shopify or WooCommerce to create a user-friendly store. And this is because you want your potential costumers to trust you in your product, and the site or store plays a big role in this.
4. Marketing Your Store:
And again you need a way to get people to the store, and you can utilize digital marketing strategies, including social media, SEO, and paid ads, to attract customers. And I have discussed before how you should use this, so I don’t think I need to do it again.
5. Customer Service:
Provide excellent customer service to build trust and repeat business. And the question will come up, “how can I do this?”.
There are a few ways you can do this, firstly give your costumers quick responses if they ask anything, be a problem solver, policy’s (have a page where you talk about the policy’s). Those are the most important ones, I recommend that you do more research on this to really make sales.
Those were the steps, and you should always learn more, now I hope that you will have a successful journey with your dropshipping business.
3. Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is my favorite way to make money from home, or online. I am an affiliate marketer myself, so I will now speak from facts and my own experience here.
Firstly, what is affiliate marketing? Well, it’s when you promote somebody’s else’s product and when someone buys the promoted product, you get a commission (small percentage of the actual price of the product). That is basically how it works. So let’s get into the guide that will help you get off the ground.
How to get started with affiliate marketing
Let’s just get straight in to our step-by-step guide:
1. Pick a Niche:
Yes, I know, I have said this multiple times now, but this is how it works. So what you want to do is to pick a niche that you will soon build a website on. The niche can be about pets or fitness. You will want to have a “wide” niche so that you can promote many products in the end.
2. Build a website:
The best way to promote any product is by building a website. You can do this at WordPress.org and build a beautiful website. You can style your website however you want, but I recommend that you make it look relevant to your niche.
3. Get Traffic To Your Website:
Just like the other business ideas, you need people to your store or website. And you can do this by using SEO as your main strategy and create content by blogging. And you will rank in search engines and that will give you traffic. You will focus on traffic first because you won’t earn anything if you don’t have any traffic.
You can also use social media to get traffic to your website so that you can get even more people that might buy something.
4. Join an affiliate program Or start advertising
Once you have traffic coming in, you can start advertising and make money. You can do this by joining an affiliate program like Amazon Associate or join Google AdSense to get ads on your website. You can take ads if it is a website where you can’t really promote products. But if you pretty much only promote products, join an affiliate program.
5. Build Trust To Make Commissions!
You must have earned your visitor trust for them to buy anything from you. Would you buy some candy from a person that you do not trust? The answer would mostly be NO, why?
Because you might think it’s a scam, well the candy can have something toxic or something in it too. So you need to build trust and can do that by showing your face, talk like a human, don’t use too much AI. And have some policy pages so that they know what the policys are. I recommend you learn more about this so that you can make commissions.
That was it, yes it isn’t that hard, the biggest flaw is that this will take time. And no, I can’t say a specific time. It’s like telling you how long does it take to get strong. I can’t because it depends on you, if you put in more work the better results you will get. So be patient.
All of this I learned from a platform called Wealthy Affiliate, so if you want to learn more I recommend you checking out this review so that you will know if they will fit you:

4. Mobile App Development
I got a simple question for you, do you like programming? Yes? Then I think this can be great for you. If the answer is no, then I do not recommend this business module is for you. Because there will be a lot of programming here.
What is even Mobile App Development about? Well, you create a piece of software aka an app that people can download on their mobile. And yes you can earn some real money from it. So to be clear, I AM NOT A PROGRAMMER, but I do have information on how you can get started. But I HIGHLY encourage you to do your own research on this.
Tips On how you can get off the ground
Let’s just move on to the tips that can help you get started:
1. Learning Coding Skills:
You will want to know how to program things if you want to create an app, so learn the code languages like Java, Swift, or Kotlin is essential.
2. Understanding Platforms:
Familiarize yourself with iOS and Android platforms and their specific development requirements. If not, I don’t think you have that much of a chance that you can even “sell” your app.
3. Designing User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI):
Focus on creating intuitive and engaging app interfaces. This will just get a good user experience and that will lead to that they will keep your app, and not deleting it.
4. Market Research:
Identify a niche or need in the market that your app can fulfill. It just the same as the other business ideas, you need to find the right niche to earn max profits.
5. Development and Testing:
Build and rigorously test your app for functionality and user experience, just to ensure that your app is looking good, and insuring that the app is working as intended.
6. App Store Submission:
Understand the guidelines for submitting your app to app stores like Google Play or Apple App Store. To ensure that your app will be “approved” by these apps so that people can get access to your app.
7. Marketing and Monetization:
Develop a strategy for marketing your app and generating revenue, whether it is, maybe, through ads, in-app purchases, or a purchase price.
These tips can help you get off the ground and have some great potential. But as I said before, I am not a programmer or an expert at this, so you will want to do your own research. To be sure that your app will work out great.
5. Personal Finance Advising
This is something that I haven’t been hearing of that much, and actually it can make you some good money. So what Personal finance advising is all about, is helping individuals manage their money more effectively.
This involves creating financial plans, giving investment advice, and guiding clients through saving, budgeting, and retirement planning. As an advisor, you’re part coach, part financial expert, aiding clients to make smart financial decisions.
How to Start Your Financial Advising Business:
- Get Certified: First things first, nab those essential finance certifications (how are you going to give advice if you aren’t certified).
- Set Up A Shop: Create a professional home office. Remember, it’s not just a workspace; it’s your command center.
- Know Your Regulations: Stay sharp on financial laws. Compliance isn’t just cool; it’s mandatory.
Building Your Client Base:
You will want to have clients, so here are a few things you can do to potentially get a few:
1. Network Like a Pro: Get out there, both online and offline.
2. Show Your Smarts: Share your knowledge through blogs, social media or workshops.
3. Build Trust: In finance, trust is your currency. Nobody will want to take your advice if they can’t trust you, here are a few things that can build trust:
- 1. Be Transparent: Always be clear about your services, fees, and any potential conflicts of interest. Transparency fosters trust.
- 2. Demonstrate Expertise: Share your knowledge through blogs, webinars, or workshops. This showcases your expertise and helps clients feel more confident in your advice.
- 3. Consistent Communication: Keep in regular contact with clients, updating them about their investments and the market, and be responsive to their queries.
- 4. Personalize Your Service: Tailor your advice to each client’s unique financial situation, goals, and risk tolerance.
- 5. Build a Professional Online Presence: A well-designed website and active social media profiles can enhance your credibility.
- 6. Client Testimonials: Share success stories and testimonials from satisfied clients (with their permission).
These tips can really help you get started, but you will have to get a certification first, so I recommend you doing that if you want to start with this business idea.
6. Creating Online Courses
Creating online courses lets you share your expertise with a global audience. Whether it’s cooking, coding, or creative writing, you can turn your skills into comprehensive courses.
This business idea revolves around designing educational content in a digital format, making learning accessible and engaging. But be a bit careful when doing these courses. Almost everyone wants to be a couch online with their own scam course. So you need that trust.
Designing Your Course:
- Pick Your Passion: What do you love? What do you know best? There’s your course topic.
- Craft Engaging Content: Make it interactive, make it fun, but most importantly, make it educational.
- Choose the Right Platform: Udemy, Coursera – the world’s your classroom.
Marketing 101:
- Social Media: Use it to tease, please, and seize your audience.
- Email Marketing: More than just spam, it’s your digital handshake.
- Partner Up: Collaborations can be your ticket to a wider audience.
7. Social Media Consulting
Social media is one of the most used platforms in the world! And you can take advantage of this.
This involves managing and enhancing a business’s presence on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
It’s not just about posting content; it’s about crafting a digital strategy, engaging with audiences, and analyzing the impact of social campaigns to drive business growth.
Let me just ask you a question. Do you watch boring/low-quality content? The answer is probably NO.
Why?
Because it isn’t entertaining so you need to be entertaining so that people want to watch your content, if they don’t, you won’t get anything.
Get Started:
- Content is King: Create posts that pop and strategies that stick. And be consistent, don’t just randomly upload content, trust me this works.
- Analyze This: It’s not just about posting; it’s about understanding the impact. You might want to analyze what people like to watch, their behavior. And which content that you create gets the most amount of views. And that kind of stuff.
Client Hunt:
- Show Off Your Work: Your portfolio is your social media storybook.
- Network and Pitch: Every business needs you, they just don’t know it yet.
8. Real Estate Investing from Home
I have never really done Real estate investing from home, but what you do is buying, managing, and selling properties remotely.
Investors can make profits through rental income, property appreciation, or both. This venture requires market analysis, property selection, and financial management, often leveraging technology to manage properties effectively.
Getting Started:
- Know Your Market: Research is your best friend when it comes to this.
- Smart Purchasing: It’s not just buying; it’s investing. You probably don’t want to buy a mansion and then maybe rent it out for like $100k. I don’t think you will get that many costumers. Be smart and buy/invest in cheaper, but good quality properties.
Management Tactics:
- Tenant Hunting: Good tenants equal less stress.
- Stay Organized: Tools and tech are your allies in this game (this will make it easier for you).
Before you get right in to things, I highly recommend you doing research, what is good and bad. Because if not, you could make some bad investments and loss instead.
9. Starting a Photography Business
This might sound either easy, hard, or both. Maybe because this involves capturing moments or products through the lens, editing photos, and selling your work to clients or through platforms. Yeah, that is a lot, but you can still earn some good money from it though.
A photography business can specialize in various areas like weddings, portraits, or commercial photography. So you could be on weddings or whatever and take photos and people will pay you for it. Only if you did take some good photos, of course.
Setting Up:
- Gear Up: Your camera is your sword; wield it well. Please don’t get too cheap with this, or you won’t get good photos, which is what your clients wants.
- Create Your Space: Your home studio, your creative haven.
Brand Building:
- Online Presence: Be seen, be known, be hired. My best tips for this are going to be social media and recommend yourself there. And send emails to people that you think might be interested.
- Network and Collaborate: Connections are the secret sauce of success. I mean, you won’t get any costumers/clients if you don’t have any contacts.
I believe that with these tips you will get up and running.
